Noe Montez joined the Department of Drama and Dance after serving as the Dramaturg at the Cleveland Play House and as a freelance director and actor. His interdisciplinary research explores the intersections of performance, developmental psychology, memory and trauma. His manuscript project, Staging Post-Memories in the Contemporary Argentine Theatre, discusses memory politics among Argentine theatre artists who subverted institutionalized mandates for forgetting the Dirty War of the 1970s and 80s. His publications include essays in Theatre Topics, Texas Theatre Journal, New England Theatre Journal, The Journal of Religion and Theatre, the edited collection Public Theatres and Theatre Publics, and Celebrating Latino Folklore: An Encyclopedia of Cultural Traditions. Noe has presented his research for several organizations and conferences including: the American Society for Theatre Researchers, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education, the Hemispheric Institute of Politics and Performance, the Comparative Drama Conference, the Mid-America Theatre Conference, and Situating August Wilson in the Canon and the Curriculum Conference at Howard University. Noe was recently appointed as a Neubauer Faculty Fellow for the 2012-2013 academic year.

As a theatre director, Noe is interested in staging contemporary plays that have "an axe to grind." He is particularly fascinated by theatre artists who create politically-motivated, non-realistic art, and who wish to investigate identity and power through kinetic play.

Noe also teaches as affiliate faculty for the American Studies, Latin American Studies and Latino Studies programs.
